One person can make a difference. A young Battle Creek boy's unprompted patriotic gesture went viral last week and the ripple affect is still going.

A passerby happened to capture the moment the young unnamed boy paused while alone on an outdoor Harper Creek High School basketball court for the National Anthem while a soccer game was beginning near by.

The woman who captured the moment said at the time that she did not know the kid but that someone should be very proud of him.

It did not take long for the photo the spread even making it to national news networks.

The boy has since been identified as Trey and his lone seemingly small act has now inspired a special ceremony of "Thanks and Recognition". The event is for Friday, October 11, before the start of Harper Creek High School’s Homecoming Football Game. It will include Leadership from the four Military Installations in the Battle Creek community. Following the ceremony, Members of our Post’s Honor Guard will raise the Colors during the National Anthem.

On Thursday of last week, a photo of Harper Creek Middle School student, Trey, went viral on social media, when it showed him paying what he thought was simple respect to our National Anthem. Playing basketball behind Harper Creek Middle School, Trey stopped what he was doing when the National Anthem began playing at a soccer game. Trey turned towards the music, and rendered the proper civilian respect, by placing his hand over his heart. A parent who was waiting in the parking lot noticed his simple act of Americanism, and extreme act of integrity, and snapped a photo of him. Even though there was nobody else around, he still found the internal responsibility to do the right thing, even when he didn’t think anyone was watching.
