A fire broke out early Saturday morning at the Crosstown Parkway Senior Community Apartments sending one to the hospital and several other to a shelter.

In a story first reported by WWMT,

KDPS Deputy Chief Donald Webster says the victim was caught on the balcony of the building and had to be rescued by ladder. Their condition is not known as of 7:45am Saturday.

The fire was contained to a single unit yet most people were evacuated to a near by shelter while fire crews continued to search the building floor by floor for other people and to check for other possible fires. The building is located near Westnedge and Howard Streets.
