As West Michigan has finally been enjoying a stretch of Spring weather in recent days, spring thunderstorms also moved through the area. In fact, most of the region was under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch with a couple of storms prompting Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.

Other than some strong winds, heavy rain and lightning strikes, the storms didn't cause to many problems in Kalamazoo County. They did pack a punch in other parts of the region, including a confirmed tornado in Barry County. But one of the more fascinating effects from storms that we occasionally get is rainbows, and a spectacular one beamed in the skies over Portage. As some of the lingering rain began to move out of the area and some sunlight shone through, the comforting effect took shape and lasted about five minutes.

This image was taken near S. Westnedge and Milham at around 7:00pm. If you look closely, you can see that a 'double rainbow' was trying to form but didn't really develop. The first one though had some brilliant colors and of course was even more spectacular with eyesight than the photo can do justice.

Did you see the rainbow? Do you have any photos of it? Feel free to share it in the comments on our Facebook page and tell us where you saw it.
