Michigan DNR Sends Birdwatching Updates Right to Your Phone
Get the latest birdwatching news in Michigan straight from the source.
Have you noticed? Now that wildlife across Michigan have begun to stir from their winter-long hibernation we're being treated to new sights and sounds.

So far this season I've been alerted to the thumping of the pileated woodpecker, heard the calls of a nearby sandhill crane, and just last night I heard the chirping of frogs throughout Asylum Lake in Kalamazoo.
What are you hearing across Michigan?
I have finally reached the age where I have a passion for "birding". With my bar-hopping days behind me I have learned to enjoy a slower pace of life which includes buying a pair of binoculars and walking the local nature preserve. I'm still an amateur birdwatcher and I get a thrill when I correctly identify the most common of birds, but I'm ready to take it to the next level!
I was so excited when I found out the Michigan DNR offers a free text program that will send you updates on which birds are moving through Michigan, no matter the time of year. Adds the DNR,
Michigan is home to so many interesting birds and we want to share some feathery facts with you. Sign up for our Winged Wednesday text updates to learn more about the birds moving through Michigan and the best state parks to see them.
How to Receive Alerts
Simply text "BIRD" to 51555 or sign up on the Michigan DNR website to receive text updates as part of Winged Wednesday. According to the DNR over 450 bird species can be found here in Michigan.
