An elderly Battle Creek man has been arrested after police allegedly found drugs hidden in his ear.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that shortly after midnight Friday morning, a deputy saw a car speeding along Helmer Rd. near Harmonia in Springfield. The deputy pulled the driver over, and began to notice something “emerging from his ear” as he was speaking with him.

It was revealed that the driver, a 73-year-old Battle Creek man, had been trying to conceal a bag of suspected crack cocaine in his ear canal.

The man began suffering an unrelated health issue during the stop and was taken for treatment, with the Prosecutor’s Office now seeking an arrest warrant for possession of cocaine.

Crack cocaine is a form of cocaine that is created by "freebasing" the powder form of the drug. Under Michigan law, a distinction isn't drawn between the power or rock forms of cocaine when it comes to criminal sentences.
