Battle Creek police rescued a young woman from human trafficking.

WWMT reports that the Battle Creek Police Department received a tip several weeks ago. A woman in her mid-20s became addicted to heroin. The alleged trafficker took photos of her, posting them to backpage.com, a social media site that allows people to advertise themselves or others, which often translates to performing sexual acts for money.

"(He) put her up in a hotel room locally and ultimately was, you know, having her commit these sexual acts and he was collecting all the money," the Battle Creek Police Department's Major Jim Grafton told WWMT.

That man was arrested for solicitation, and possession with intent, because he gave the woman heroin. But it may not end on the local level.

"Ultimately, we may be looking at federal charges for human trafficking," Grafton said.

Grafton says right now they don't know if there are other victims, though the man told them this was the one and only time. According to Grafton, the woman was also arrested but he stressed the ultimate goal is to get her help. She's now safe and is getting help for her drug addiction.
