Why is this Michigan man still in jail?

Michael Thompson has already served 25 years in prison of a 60 year jail sentence for selling weed according to freemichaelthompson.com,

He has never committed a violent act. But he was charged with a violent crime just so he could serve the longest sentence possible. Michael was labeled violent because police found guns at his house, even though in Michigan people can legally and openly carry guns. One was an antique and another was his wife’s gun. He didn’t even have a gun on him when he sold weed to the informant, but he is serving a 60 year sentence because of trumped up charges.

The website goes on to say that Thompson has been serving a longer sentence than any non violent offender in Michigan.

Thompson's attorney submitted a petition of clemency this week to the parole board.  Are you ready for a huge smack in the face?  This is his third attempt according to the New York Post,

Thompson’s attorney, Kimberly Kendall Corral, said she submitted a petition of clemency Wednesday on his behalf to the Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Board, his third attempt. His last request for release was denied by then-Gov. Rick Snyder in 2018 — the same year Michigan voted to legalize recreational marijuana in the state.
