Michigan's Mackinac Island is famously car-free. However in winter, you can hear the whirl of snowmobiles through the streets of the tourist community.

there are no snowmobile rentals, but you may bring yours (for an additional fee) on the ferry boat weather permitting until the boats stop running in early to mid-January.

We do not recommend snowmobiling across the Ice Bridge. For information about traveling on ice in the straits of Mackinac, please contact the US Coast Guard Station in St. Ignace.

This video captures a winter trip around the island and the annual ice bridge that forms to the mainland.

Bonus - A Trip Around Mackinac Island's M-185

Michigan State Highway M-185 is unique in that it's the only highway in the nation where vehicles are banned. Here is each mile marker around the island.
