Possible Active Shooter Near Battle Creek School

We have received information that there is a possible active shooter near Valley View Elementary and Springfield Middle School.

Both schools and roads in the area are closed are currently closed. This statement was just posted on the Battle Creek Public Schools website,

Springfield police have made us aware of an active shooter situation in the area. For the safety of our students and staff, Springfield Middle School and Valley View Elementary school will be closed today, April 12, 2018. Additionally, due to roads being blocked, transportation to other buildings from the Springfield area will not be available.

According to WWMT,

It happened in the area of Dickman and Helmer Road early Thursday morning. Battle Creek Police told us just before 5 a.m. a woman was shot while driving down the road in that area. Deputies attempted a K9 track but did not find the suspect. They are searching near the Fairlane Apartments at this time. Battle Creek Police say there is no active shooter in the area, only one woman was shot. Her condition is unknown.
