Pickett Guilty of Second Degree Murder
After deliberating four hours, a Kalamazoo jury convicted Charles E. Pickett, Jr. on all counts of second-degree murder, and operating under the influence, in the deaths of five bicyclists June 7th, 2016.
The tragic hit and run accident occurred along North Westnedge Avenue in Cooper Township north of Kalamazoo, near Markin Glen Park. WOOD-TV reported nine bicyclists were struck.
According to MLive, those killed were "Debra Ann Bradley, 53, of Augusta; Melissa Ann Fevig Hughes, 42, of Kalamazoo; Fred Anton "Tony" Nelson, 73, of Kalamazoo; Lorenz John "Larry" Paulik, 74, of Kalamazoo and Suzanne Joan Sippel, 56, of Augusta." Injured were "bicyclists Jennifer Johnson of Kalamazoo; Sheila Jeske of Richland; Paul Runnels of Richland; and Paul Gobble of Richland."
Picket will be sentenced on June 11th. He faces up to life in prison.
