Just when you thought there could not be room for another beach, Michigan finds a way

Over the years Detroit has been trying to improve the interest in spending time down town. One great thing to do is The Riverwalk! The three-and-a-half miles of the east riverfront, spans from Joe Louis Arena to Gabriel Richard Park. Detroitriverfront.org shares details of what you can look forward on the river front stroll.

Attractions along the east riverfront are...

  • parks
  • plazas
  • pavilions
  • pathways
  • and
  • green space

And now the Riverfront area is getting bigger and better! According to the Detroit Free Press the Atwater beach will be opening by the end of the summer and will connected to the River walk.

Here is what Atwater Beach has to offer...

  • A large, sandy beach area for the kids.
  • A playscape featuring what looks like colorful lifeguard stations that  kids can climb all over.
  • A large shed that will offer a mix of programming, including special events, food and beverage, and retail.
  • A colorful barge for food and drink, spanning two boat slips in the water and offering good river views.

I can not wait to grab my suit and hang out on the beach in Detroit! This city just gets better and better!
