This has definitely not been a great year for romaine lettuce in Michigan considering the recalls they have had so far. BC Enquirer reported that Meijer and Kroger both released statements claiming they now have romaine lettuce that is safe to eat, coming shortly after the announcement that there was a multi-state E. coli outbreak that's contaminated romaine lettuce and related products.

With that being said, there are a few stores around Kalamazoo that you can get great fresh produce from while we wait patiently for the Kalamazoo Farmer's Market to open up again. Here are some great spots to find safe and unique varieties of produce:

1. Park Street Market- 512 N Park St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 GOOGLE REVIEW: THE PLACE TO SHOP. Great meat selection, and the produce is at tip top shape now. Cheapest prices around. Plus if you have EBT the double-up-bucks make the produce even cheaper. Highly suggested.
2. PFC Natural Grocery & Deli- 507 Harrison St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007 GOOGLE REVIEW: Best grocery store in town! Top notch deli and hot food bar, and they've got deli deals like $5 dinners on Wednesdays. Plus there's no contest that the co-op has the freshest produce and the most local products out of any store in town.
As a co-op it's the only community owned grocery in Kalamazoo with over 3000 members, and they actually care about the shoppers, the farmers, and the neighborhoods they serve. I love my co-op.
3. Sawall Health Foods-2965 Oakland Dr, Kalamazoo, MI 49008- GOOGLE REVIEW: It was only my second time shopping at Sawall but both experiences have been wonderful! They have a wonderful selection of healthy products.

These places are obviosly a great spot to get produce while supporting local businesses. Head on over to one of these shops and give em a try!
