Kelly Clarkson Explains ‘Voice’-Era Weight Loss
At the moment, Kelly Clarkson might be the most beloved celebrity in the county — she killed it as host of the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, she won The Voice Season 14 on her very first try as coach and she sparked additional conversation surrounding gun violence after a moving and tearful monologue.
But she's not letting any of that — or recent weight loss and a slimmer figure — go to her head.
Fans have noticed that Clarkson, a fierce advocate for body acceptance (she once admirably proclaimed that she was "happier fat"), has become thinner in recent months. And while Clarkson is enjoying the transformation, she joked to Entertainment Tonight that it's all smoke and mirrors.
“I have to shout out my whole glam squad,” she said. “I literally hired Harry Potter and SPANX; it’s all like a sausage.”
Clarkson added that her style team has upped her wardrobe game, and has put her in incredibly flattering silhouettes, colors and shapes across Voice filming dates.
“I feel like it’s like the mom makeover on the Today show. I walk in and then I walk out and I’m like, ‘Damn!’” she joked.
Clarkson told Today only six months ago that when she's carrying more weight, it's typically a sign that she's happier.
"It’s when I’m fat that I’m happy," she said. "People think, 'Oh, there’s something wrong with her. She’s putting on weight.' I’m like, 'Oh, no! I’m sorry, but that represents happiness in my emotional world.' For me, when I’m skinny is usually when I’m not doing well."
