You get into mid to late September and you start thinking...maybe, just maybe you can exhale. Construction season just might be over. But no. No. No. No. The City of Kalamazoo will be closing Portage Street for a month.

The closure will be from Lovell Street on the north end to Stockbridge Avenue on the south end.The complete closure (for vehicles) will begin September 30th and go all the way through Oct.25.

The city's unending love affair with bicyclists continues as the city says that the area will be open to bicyclists and pedestrians of all kinds.

The official reason given for the closing is lead service replacement.
