It's only a test. The National Weather Service will be conducting a statewide test of the tornado alert system on Wednesday, April 13th.

The tornado drill will be at 1:30pm. Not to get technical, but it will sound much like the real thing, but will clearly state that it's a test.

Michigan averages 16 tornadoes a year, and ranks fifth in deaths and 22nd in cost of damage. The danger in doing this test, is some people will not realize it's a test, and may panic. But both radio and television stations will attempt to make clear it's only a test.

If there is a threat of actual severe weather on April 13, the test will be postponed until April 14, 2016. If there is a threat of severe weather on April 14, the test will be cancelled.
