Kalamazoo has one of the most killer music scenes I've ever been lucky enough to experience. There are so many good local bands from Jake Simmons & The Little Ghosts, Megan Dooley, Katy Needs A Life, to The Mushmen. It seems like there's something for everyone here. This scene is taking over the Kalamazoo's Bates Alley between Portage Street and South Edwards Street, behind the Olde Peninsula Brewpub  and the Green Top Tavern this summer, to offer free entertainment on a weekly basis, according to Downtown Kalamazoo Partnership.

Shows will begin at 5 p.m. and you can expect them to run til' about 8 p.m. Here is the schedule for the shows:

  • June 12 – Jazz & Creative Institute
  • June 19 – So Long Belladonna
  • June 26 - Black Arts & Cultural Center
  • July 10 – Boardman Brown
  • July 17 – The Skeletones
  • July 24 – Big Trouble
  • July 31 – Megan Dooley and Yolonda Lavender
  • August 7 – Out of Favor Boys
  • August 14 – Schlitz Creek – Sponsored by The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo
