Yes, this is an honor we could live without — especially as the summer season begins this weekend.

If you've spent any time in Michigan, you know that with summer comes mosquitoes. And Kalamazoo/Battle Creek along with that town north of here, which is really responsible for most the bugs, ranks No. 12 on the list of top mosquito cities in the United States by the pest control company, Orkin.

June, July and August are the prime mosquito months in most areas, but this current cold spell certainly may be doing us a favor in the long run. Because of warmer temperatures in the southern part of the United States, the season can extend from April to October, but mosquitoes affect people in every state in the U.S.
