Call me crazy, but I have a feeling we're going to need some comfort food today. Typically, my go to is either ice cream or Doritos. But, it'd be nice to have someone else cook for me and support a local business at the same time. So, here are the top 5 places for comfort food in the Kalamazoo area according to Yelp.

To make it fair, I researched Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Portage Yelp reviews. Here are the results.

If I'm understanding this correctly, Load A Spud Potato Bar serves the majority of their dishes on potatoes! That's a dream come true. For example, they have a Taco Spud option, a Chicken or Shrimp Alfredo Spud, or a Chili Spud to name a few. In fact, Yelp reviewer Brittany said,

This place is amazing! I got the chili spud and my boyfriend got the bacon, broccoli, cheese, and shrimp one. Both were phenomenal.

Find them between Subway and East Egg on West Michigan Avenue.

Judy's Restaurant offers breakfast options, lunch specials, and a wide variety of dinner options like pork chops, catfish, fried chicken, steak and liver and onions just to name a few. One of their most recent reviews, written by Brady C on their Facebook page reads,

Good old home style cookin with a “everyone’s family” vibe. Judys is a great spot to get breakfast or lunch.

Positioned right next to the Plainwell Municipal Airport, The Fly Inn has been serving breakfast and lunch for the past 70 years. Yelp user Rick P wrote,

I love the Fly Inn! Always a great breakfast and friendly service. My coffee is always full. My only recommendation for those coming for the first time is that you may expect to wait for a table. It is a small place; but, it's worth the wait. Bring your plane if you can!!

Riverdog Tavern Street View Via Google Maps

You can expect a pub type menu at Riverdog Tavern including burgers, other handhelds, dinner options, and, of course, beer! Yes, it's a little up the road from Kalamazoo but that shouldn't stop you. At least that's what Yelp user Kari H says.

May seem out of the way from GR or Kalamazoo but you've got to visit. Amazing food and service. Been here a few times and never disappoint. Got to check this place out!

Today has the potential to be a very stressful day no matter what side of the fence you're on. I would encourage you to take some time away from the tv, away from the internet and social media, even if just for one meal and check out one of these local spots. Hopefully, they'll provide some comfort or at least a delicious meal. Honestly...I'll jump on any excuse to eat my fill of pancakes.
