The Sound Michiganders Make Instead Of Saying Excuse Me
Somebody from another part of the country brought to my attention the other day that we Michiganders make a sound when we have to get past someone or accidentally bump into someone other than saying 'excuse me.' Or when something bad or awkward happens. See if you've found yourself saying the word "ope". That's right "ope".
You bump into someone and yo go "ope". You fumble something you're trying to give someone and you go "ope". You simply get in someone's way and you go "ope". I never realized I was even saying it until someone said I was. And now I'm wondering how long I've been saying it. Apparently, other parts of the country don't use this little "blutterance". So where do you think it comes from? Are we too lazy to say oops?
