A video has surfaced of a man with a gun biting a Kalamazoo Police Officer during an arrest.

Friday night KPS Officers responded to call of a man walking down Ada Street with a gun hidden in the waistband of his pants.

A struggle ensued while attempting to detain and disarm the suspect, according to Kalamazoopublicsafety.org,

The suspect proceeded to bite one of the officers twice on the leg causing injury.  A Taser was eventually used to subdue the suspect. Once handcuffed, the suspect spit in the officer’s face.  The suspect was searched and a loaded .22 caliber handgun was found. A file check of the handgun revealed that it had been reported stolen out of the Kalamazoo Township Police Department.

The injured officer was treated and released.

This video shows an angry crowd gathering around the officers as they detain the suspect.  While the video footage can appear violent when taken out of context, it's important to point out that the KPS officers were able to detain an armed suspect who resisted arrest without any serious injury or death of officers or suspects.

The 21 year-old suspect was arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on the charges of carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing arrest, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of firearm during the commission of a felony and attempting to disarm a police officer.
