State Activates Information Center To Coordinate Virus News

The State of Michigan's State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) has activated the Michigan Joint Information Center (JIC) to coordinate state agency communications efforts, with the looming potential spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

However, as of March 9, there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan.

The state says when the JIC is activated, it allows public information officers (PIO) around the state to access and to post the latest verified information, thereby allowing easier sharing of crucial information in an emergency.

“During emergencies, whether it be a natural disaster or a public health issue, the Joint Information Center is used to track important information and provide it to the public,” said Capt. Emmitt McGowan, deputy state director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and commander of the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division. “Timely and accurate communication is key to ensuring the safety of Michigan’s residents.” - State of Michigan release.

The state says Michigan.gov/Coronavirus and CDC.gov/Coronavirus are the best sites to get the latest information surrounding the coronavirus/COVID19 outbreak.
