Forget predicting winter, Muskrat Frank is going to predict how much more summer we have.

How it has happened for the past 30 years is that Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, has predicted winter weather. According to superstition, if Phil sees his shadow on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, there will be six more weeks of winter. This summer Michigan is stepping up to the plate with Muskegon Muskrat Day. It is August 27th and Muskrat Frank will let us know how much summer is left. Organizer of the event, Dana Precious, of Muskegon told Mlive about the decision about Muskrat Frank...

If Muskrat Frank sees his shadow, there will be eight more weeks of summer. It’s our own Groundhog Day. I figured if Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, can be put on the map with a groundhog, we can do the same for Muskegon with a muskrat. It’s a silly, fun affair.

The ceremony is set for 5 p.m. on “Muskrat Day,” Tuesday, Aug. 27, in front of BoomTown Market, 351 W. Western Ave. in downtown Muskegon.

I can only hope that Muskrat Rat see's his shadow so we have a few more weeks of Michigan Summer fun!
