Marin Mazzie To Receive Posthumous Tony Award
Bittersweet news announced today. Marin Mazzie, who's acting career made stops at both Western Michigan University and at the Barn Theatre in Augusta, will be awarded a special Tony Award, posthumously, for "outstanding contributions to the theater and theater community," according to Deadline.com.
Mazzie died last September of ovarian cancer. She was enshrined in the American Theater Hall of Fame for 2017.
Her resume featured starring performances in numerous Broadway shows, including Passion, Ragtime and a 2000 revival of Kiss Me, Kate. A three-time Tony nominee. Equally adept at classics as she was in comedy and drama, she appeared in production such as "Man of La Mancha", "Spamalot", and "Into the Woods", "Enron" and the aforementioned "Ragtime".
The announcement comes a day ahead of the Tony nominations tomorrow morning.
