Where Was the 101 Ranch Motel and Restaurant in Galesburg?
Here’s a former motel and restaurant site that may be a little hard to pinpoint.
The 101 Ranch Motel and Restaurant was located – supposedly – in the Kalamazoo County town of Galesburg at 12382 East Michigan Avenue. Whether that is the original address is unknown, because looking at that address, there doesn’t seem to be any clue to that place. All that is seen now are grown trees, homes, and a driveway or two.
Okay, fine, but which plot of land once held this old motel?
The 101 was indeed not far from the Galesburg Speedway, which old aerial photography shows. But attempting to locate that exact site on current satellite images is more difficult than expected.
A rumor that relatives of Elvis Presley once owned the motel has proved to be false. The owners were Margaret and Charles Tennant in the motel’s early years. Opening and closing dates are so far unknown, but it’s believed to have been thriving during the 1950s and 1960s.
