Southwest Michigan hasn't seen the sun in the last 14 days.  Ever wonder if we live in the cloudiest state?

December 23rd was the last time the sun shined on Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Van Buren counties.  We might see sunshine on Saturday, January 9th, 2021, as the forecast says party cloudy skies expected.  It definitely feels like Michigan is the cloudiest place on earth.  It turns out, the Great Lake State isn't #1 on the overcast list.  However, we're in the top 10.  Michigan is the 7th cloudiest state according to farmersalmanac.com,

As cold winds rush over Lake Superior and Lake Huron during the winter, lots of condensation forms, bringing clouds and tons of lake effect snow.

In my opinion, the most eye opening info from the Farmers Almanac is that Michiganders only get an average of 65 - 75 clear days a year.  Ohio isn't far behind as the 8th cloudiest state averaging only 72 - 77 clear days a year.

Here are the 5 cloudiest states in the nation updated by the Farmers Almanac on December 5th, 2020.

  1. Washington
  2. Vermont
  3. Alaska
  4. New York
  5. Oregon
