Never before has a Southwest Michigan drive-in movie theater been open in December. You can see movies outdoors on the big screen for one more weekend in 2020.

Winter has yet to officially arrive and movie theaters, restaurants, bowling alleys and other businesses remain closed by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services. So what can you do? Watch movies. Even if you've already gone through your entire queue on Netflix and viewed everything in your Prime watchlist, this is a new experience: a drive-in movie in December.

The Capri Drive-In of Coldwater was open for the first time ever in the month of December last week, with two double features: Frozen/The Polar Express and How the Grinch Stole Christmas/The Croods: A New Age. You can see four more films before they power down the projector for good in 2020. The Croods sequel is back, paired with A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation is followed by the romantic comedy Just Friends.

Friday & Saturday | December 11 & 12

Screen 1:

  • The Croods: A New Age (PG)
  • A Christmas Story (PG)

Screen 2:

  • National  Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (PG-13)
  • Just Friends (PG-13)
The box office opens at 6:30 pm with showtime at 7. (Cash only, please.) The Capri Drive-In is located at 119 W. Chicago Dr. (US-12) in Coldwater.

National  Lampoon's Christmas Vacation has become a Kalamazoo holiday tradition as the Kalamazoo State Theatre shows the movie every year. While we don't know if drive-ins in December will become a regular thing, you can take advantage of this unique opportunity and make some good memories of 2020.
