Love Cosplay and Anime? Dokidokon Coming Soon to Kalamazoo
Just today I saw an promoted event for Dokidokon coming to Kalamazoo. And I have absolutely no idea what it is. So, let's dive in to the convention coming soon to Kalamazoo.
What Is Dokidokon?
Dokidokon, according to their website, is a convention that mainly focuses on Anime and gaming. However, they've made it clear that all types of fandoms are welcome whether that be movie, sci-fi, LARP and more.
When compared to major conventions like Comicon in California, which averages hundreds of thousands of attendees, Dokidokon is on the smaller side with about 1,500 attendees. However, if you're into gaming and anime it must be incredible to have a convention happening close by.
If you'd like a general idea, Dokidokon's Youtube Channel features an overview of their 2019 event:
Do I Have to Dress Up to Attend?
This is one of the first questions I asked. The answer is absolutely not. Feel free to enjoy the convention in jeans and a t-shirt if you'd like. However, if you are planning on attending in costume here are a few rules to keep in mind:
- No blatant nudity or adult related content
- Shoes must be worn
- No projectiles of any kind
- Props must be checked in
You can see the full list of rules and regulations for cosplay at Dokidokon here.
When Is This Happening? And How Much Is It?
Dokidokon is coming to Kalamazoo July 30th through August 1st at the Radisson Plaza Hotel.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the door and range in prices:
- Adult weekend badge: $55
- At the door badges: $30 for Friday, $35 for Saturday, $20 for Sunday
They also offer badges for children. Find all pricing here.
You can follow Dokidokon on Facebook for updates and find all other information, like scheduling, panels and more, on their website.
If you happen to be in downtown Kalamazoo next weekend, don't be surprised if you see a few people in costume exploring the city. And, if plan on attending, have fun!
