Coming soon to specific area codes in Michigan you will now be required to dial the whole 10-digit number for it to go through.

Officials are urging people to start the habit of failing 10-digit now because once it's implemented you won't be able to make a phone call unless you do so.

When you think about it, it's really not that big of a deal. How many of us actually dial anyone's number all the way out? I usually save a number once, then I completely forget I so spoiled on saving numbers on my phone that I think adding the extra numbers to your phone will probably go unnoticed.

The change impacts all calls made in the area codes impacted and throughout the state.

April 24, 2021 through Oct. 23, 2021 was the permissive dialing period. That meant calls would still go through without the area code being used, but state officials encouraged people to use the time to get accustomed to dialing 10 digits instead of seven when making calls to anyone in the four area codes. Save yourself some headaches and update your contact list right away. Hopefully, this helps slow down some of the scam calls that have been plaguing Michigan the last few months, but I doubt it.
