Whether it's for a birthday or special occasion, stores like Walmart and Ollie's are go-to spots for affordable toys in Michigan. But now, shoppers are being urged to check their homes for a toy sold at both retailers that has been recalled due to asbestos concerns.

Walmart, Ollie's Stores In Michigan Recall Toy Over Asbestos Risk

According to an alert from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 12,000 squeeze toys have been recalled after it was discovered that the sand filling inside the toys may contain fibrous tremolite, a form of asbestos. According to the CDC, asbestos exposure can lead to lung cancer and mesothelioma, as well as asbestosis, scarring in the lungs, and pleural disease, which can impact the membrane around the lungs and chest cavity.

The toys were sold nationwide at major retailers, including Walmart and Ollie's Bargain Outlet. Here's what to look for:

Currently, this recall only involves two specific models of Orb Funkee Squeeze Toys with model numbers 17451 and 41929 and a date code of 3102491A.

While there have been no injuries or incidents reported in connection with the recalled toys, the CPSC says asbestos “can cause adverse health issues if inhaled.”

If you have one of the toys, it’s recommended that you or your child stop using it and immediately contact The Orb Factory for a refund.
