In announcing the sale, the Powells say the ice arena at 75 Houston Street will undergo significant exterior and interior renovations and they hope to integrate new programming and partnerships to attract customers.

In the release, Jennifer Powell says "we’re excited to transform The Rink into one of the area’s best ice arenas while expanding our core offerings. Programming will focus on the arena’s community roots but with a much broader appeal.

In addition to supporting B.C. Bruin Hockey and city’s semi-pro team, the West Michigan Wolves, as well as several adult leagues, The Rink will offer more ice time to people of all ages. “We’re seeking to add figure skating and adult skating lessons and even curling lessons,” explains Powell. “Our Stick and Pucks scheduling will expand too, and there will be more open skate time to anyone who wants to lace up a pair of boots. The Rink will also focus on building partnerships, for example with area community colleges and non-profit agencies, to develop niche programming."

In the near term, extensive refurbishing will begin immediately at The Rink, with plans to paint the interior and exterior, resurface the parking lot, add new signage, and upgrade the landscaping. There will also be updates to the concession stand, de-humidification system, bleachers, and locker rooms. The Rink’s hospitality room will also be remodeled and renamed the “Wolves Den.”

The new owners promise a stronger focus on internal operations and management – including how group parties are organized, concessions, and overall facility maintenance. Powell, who has an extensive business background and works as a National Account Advisor for a large financial institution, is eager to put her business savvy and MBA to work.
