Even though it's probably routine for the U.S. Attorney to name someone to oversee claims of voter fraud and discrimination ahead of a major election, with all the talk of "rigged" election by Donald Trump, this announcement deserves a little more attention.

U.S. Attorney for Western Michigan Patrick Miles named Federal Prosecutor Donald Daniels as the Election Officer, to oversee this year's hotly contested election. Daniels will be in charge of investing claims of voter fraud, voter intimidation and discrimination in West Michigan.

The U.S. Attorney's office will be coordinating with local FBI agents to check out complaints of voter irregularities, in the form of fraud, intimidation and discrimination.

Any voting rights/discrimination claims can be called into the Civil Rights Division at 800-253-3931.

All voter fraud claims go the Election Officer's number, which is 616-808-2014.

“Free and fair elections are a necessity in the United States. Protecting the right to vote and combating election fraud are thus essential to maintaining the confidence of all Americans in our democratic system of government,” - U.S. Attorney Patrick Miles
