Saying it will be a pizza experience unlike anything else in Southwest Michigan, organizers of a Kickstarter campaign are hoping to bring authentic Neapolitan style pizza to Kalamazoo with Pizza Katerina.

The pizzeria is envisioned to be:

an experience unlike any other in Southwest Michigan. A very rustic, old world atmosphere, no big screen TV's, no wifi. Just good, wood fired, Neapolitan style pizza served with wines and beer sourced from local wineries and brewers. Our toppings will be sourced from local suppliers. Enjoy the soft sounds of a classical guitarist or violinist on Saturday evenings.

Neapolitan pizzas are reminiscent of the pies made in Naples, Italy, a tradition which gave raise to America's first pizza makers in New York.

Paul and Kathleen Harris are the visionaries behind the concept and describe themselves this way on Kickstarter:

We are Kathleen and Paul from Kalamazoo, MI. After a rough 2017 and Kathleen waging a brave, successful battle against breast cancer, we decided it was time to move on with our 8 to 5 jobs and do something we enjoyed and would put us closer to the community we live in. A small pizzeria/ artisan bread bakery would fill that bill and we believe would be a very unique and needed small business here in Kalamazoo, the land of big chain restaurants.

Supporters at the $1 level would get a free pizza. $25 level supporters would earn a free dinner while a pledge at $250 would earn free pizza every week for a year should the restaurant get funded.
