New, Free Way for the Kids To Cool Down in Kalamazoo this Summer
More options for the kids to have fun in the sun is coming to LaCrone Park this summer!
No lie...I'm a little jealous these things weren't around when I was a kid. All we had was a hose a broken sprinkler. As reported by WWMT News Channel 3, construction has just begun on a brand new splash pad at LaCrone Park in Kalamazoo.
The project is expected to be completed in July with an expected opening date of August 1st of this year. Once completed, the splash pad will be free to all and will be located just north of an already existing playground.
Here are some of the future features:
- Sprinklers
- Water features
- An awning with picnic tables
- A rubberized surface for the kids to play on
Moving forward, the splash pad would be open seasonally from the beginning of June to the beginning of September.
There's some bad news for those that frequent LaCrone Park. During construction, the playground will have to close. However, it's only for a short time. The expected reopening date for the playground is May 10th.
I'm still fairly new to Michigan so I can't speak on the intensity of the summers but back in Florida we would do anything and everything we could to try to find relief from the heat. If Michigan's summer conditions are anything close to Florida's I'm sure this will be a welcome reprieve for parents and their kids in Kalamazoo.
Can't wait until August?
There are a few other parks within driving distance of Kalamazoo that have splash pads:
- River Oaks Park in Galesburg
- Wayland City Park in Wayland (about halfway from Kalamazoo to Grand Rapids)
- Lawton Splash Pad in Lawton
And more. Kzoo Kids put together a great list last year which you can see here (keep in mind operating hours may be different and other restrictions may be in place.)
Otherwise, look for the brand new splash pad in LaCrone Park this August!
