Maybe Lay's didn't get the memo, recently Detroit Pizza has been having a moment. The crispy pan Detroit-style pizza has been a hot food trend. However, when Lay's brought back their Taste of America flavors, they chose Chicago Deep Dish Pizza to represent the taste of the Great Lakes.

Of course the choice of Chicago pizza looks to have something of a corporate tie in to Giordano's. The Chicago area chain does happen to have one West Michigan location, in Holland. A second Giordano's in Michigan is right in the heart of Detroit on Randolph Street.

The new Deep Dish Flavor chips (haven't pizza chips been a thing for a long time?) are due out late July. They're one of 8 flavors Lay's is dropping to represent flavors from around the county for their latest rounds of the Taste of America campaign.

Elsewhere in America the flavors include:

  • New England Lobster Rolls
  • Crab Spice (travel in the mid-Atlantic, and you'll see plenty of Old Bay spiced chips)
  • Cajun Spice
  • Chile con Queso
  • Fried Pickles with Ranch
  • Pimento Cheese
  • Thai Sweet Chili

Unlike other Taste of America chips, not all chips will be available nationwide. Here in Michigan, it sounds like we'll only be able to purchase the Deep Dish Pizza flavor in stores. But you can buy any of the flavors online.

There's TWELVE flavors, not eight! Here is your first look at legible images of the 12 Tastes of America Lay's chips! The first eight flavors are now up for pre-order on laystastesofamerica.com (edit: now as of 7pm CST, it's just a 'coming soon' page). However, they won't ship until the promotion period starts, July 30. The last four flavors are in-store only. Flavors are: Giordano's Deep Dish Pizza *cough* Lou Malnati's is better *cough* New England Lobster Roll Fried Pickles with Ranch Pimento Cheese Thai Sweet Chili Cajun Spice Chile con Queso Crab Spice Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Popper (formerly a Walmart exclusive, now in wavy form) Fried Green Tomatoes (from the 2017 Do Us a Flavor contest) Ketchup (a chip popular in Canada) West Coast Truffle Fries (from the 2015 Do Us a Flavor contest)
