A short time ago, in an arena close, close by, the Kalamazoo Wings attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the Largest Lightsaber Battle this past weekend as they celebrated Star Wars Night. The 7-2 Victory was just the cherry on the top, as the arena was lit up with red and blue lightsabers all night. This attempt would have been the largest of any sporting team. As of now, video and photographic evidence has been sent to the people at Guinness for review. The game had a sell out crowd, and the Wings Event Center seats over 5,000 people.

The Kalamazoo Wings organization should know within 2 weeks whether or not Guinness will accept the attempt and award Kalamazoo the world record. In order to break the record, fans had to playfully battle one another for 3 minutes and 45 seconds. As the official timekeeper for the event, my co-timekeeper and I synchronized stop watches to make sure we hit the proper time. We will update as soon as we know whether or not Kalamazoo has made the history books. Here's as sample of some of the fun from Saturday:
