This Was Kalamazoo’s Slogan in 1909…
Vanished Kalamazoo is one of the coolest Facebook pages to find and see some incredible blasts from the past, when it comes to the history of Kalamazoo. Recently a woman's friend had found a relic which is 110 years old which reveals what Kalamazoo's slogan was back then. Another member of the group commented on the picture with a similar pin which came complete with the medallion honoring Civil War hero Lt. Col. Benjamin F. Orcutt. He was Kalamazoo's first Sheriff and sadly, the first Sheriff in the State of Michigan to be killed in the line of duty.
I am still somewhat new to the area and had no idea that Kalamazoo used to be called the Celery City and their old slogan was, "In Kalamazoo, We Do." Now I'm not 100% sure what that's supposed to imply but never-the-less, It's an awesome piece of history to have.
