LaPorte, Indiana Mayor Calls Out City Employee’s Wasteful Road Graffiti
We've got a few questions-- mainly: Who's Sherry?
This employee's got some explaining to do! Well, former city employee, that is. Here's the strange but true story unfolding in small-town Indiana.

When I first saw the photo come across my social media feed, I assumed it was A.I. Only after reading through comments did I discover the unaltered photo was actually posted by the town's mayor himself!
You may have seen the photo too, or if you've driven on McClung Road in LaPorte, Indiana recently, then you know firsthand, there's a strange message written in the middle of the road with crack-sealer:
Which one of Sherry's construction crew member friends thought it was a bright idea to do that on company time and with company resources no less? Obviously, while this message is thankfully inoffensive, this news is causing quite the stir in little LaPorte. Here's what Mayor Tom Dermody shared on his official Facebook page:
WE HAVE HIGH STANDARDS FOR OUR RESIDENTS AND EXPECT THE BEST FROM OUR EMPLOYEES EVERY DAY…This senseless behavior has wasted city resources and time, which is an insult to the taxpaying residents of La Porte…. We do not tolerate this behavior!!!! One employee has since been terminated and others on the crew will be disciplined accordingly
While the misuse of city resources is not something to be taken lightly, residents sure are getting a kick out of it. Local reactions to Mayor Dermody's post include:
- "Poor Sherry has been exposed. While I find this hilarious and probably inappropriate I know, I am curious to see how this holds up through the winter" - Liz E.
- "I think the real question is 'how is sherry taking this? is sherry upset?'" - Felicia M.
- "All I want to know is who is Sherry, and why were they pointing out her house?" - Rick F.
- "I know how hard the city is fighting for every dollar and how hard our team works. Kudos to a mayor that is accountable and solution driven!" - Courtney P.
