Have You Noticed Gull Road is The ‘Wash Capital’ of Kalamazoo?
The running joke around Kalamazoo for the past few years has been how every empty building is becoming a credit union. Well, it's no joke, but Gull Road from Riverview in Kalamazoo all the way to Meijer in Comstock Township is the "wash" capital of the county if not the entire Midwest.
This story started out with the premise of pointing out how there's a new self service dog wash right near Sprinkle Rd (at Gull Rd.) and a big, fancy car wash is going in just a few yards east of there. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized there's a lot of wash facilities on Gull Road, for your car, your dog and your clothes.
Count them. There's a laundromat just east of Borgess Hospital. Adjacent to that is an automated and manual car wash facility. Then, at H Avenue and Gull, there's another "do it yourself" car wash. Then, approaching Sprinkle, there's the mega car wash going in. As you cross Sprinkle Road, you have Bob and Kay's gas station with...a car wash. And behind that is a laundromat. And finally, at the Meijer store, is a X-treme car wash. And back at Jennings Drive, there's the Pet Supplies Plus store which has a sign touting a new self service dog wash.
The first question that begs to be asked is, how did Gull Road become Florida? If you go to Florida, there are car washes practically on every corner. Kind of like credit unions on every corner in the rest of Kalamazoo County.
