Fixer Upper: WMU’s Dunbar Hall To Undergo $40 Million Rehab

Don't expect to see Joanna and Chip Gaines for this Fixer Upper project, but Western Michigan University has announced a $40 Million renovation to Dunbar Hall.

Construction on the nearly 50 year old building will being in the Spring of 2020, and should take about two years. The state of Michigan is kicking in $30 million and Western has raised the remaining $10 million, according to President Edward Montgomery.

Dunbar Hall houses the College of Arts and Sciences but is used by many other programs, including WMU Media Services and broadcast production facilities. The school says it's the second most used building on campus, with over 600 course and 17,000 students using the building this school year.

"Without a doubt, we will benefit from having modern technology in classrooms that will allow our faculty to use innovative, active learning strategies that are difficult to implement in small classrooms designed in the late 1960's," says Dr. Carla Koretsky, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, is quoted in a school release announcing the project.
