It's a well known fact among our family and friends that my wife Karla and I have always prefered dive bars and hole-in-the-wall joints to other places with more, shall we say, sophistication.  Our favorite bar was a hole-in-the-wall called "Spanky's" and our favorite burger joint was a hole-in-the-wall called "The Spot" both in Kenosha, WI.  So whenever we get the chance to check out a place that's recommended to us with less than stellar characteristics, we really look forward to it.  Incidentally, our favorite pizza doesn't come form a hole-in-the wall but from a nice old family restaurant on Kenosha's lakeshore called Villa D' Carlo's.

And speaking of pizza, msn.com did a national search to find the best Hole-In-The-Wall Pizza Joint.  Some of the finds were "Cowgirl Pizza And Laundromat", "Pie Hole" and "Huc-A-Poo's Bites And Booze; many of which were in major metropolitan areas.  And wouldn't you know it.  One of the Best Hole-In-The-Wall Pizza Joints in America is right here in our own backyard: Cranky Hank's in Dowagiac, MI.  According to the article, here's part of what they had so say about Cranky Hank's: "Slices are thick and piled with toppings, making the breakfast pizza with sausage gravy, eggs, bacon, ham, and sausage a hearty way to start the day. Since it's a convenience store, it's carryout only."  Check out more of the results and joints by clicking HERE.
