Yesterday was almost the perfect Sunday. Early in the morning it was a nice Fall day with a cool breeze, followed shortly after by a rain shower. I was headed out to Marshalls yesterday evening in Kalamazoo when I got out of the car and noticed a super bright rainbow. Upon further observation, I realised it was a double rainbow.

Is it just me or did these things just start becoming a thing within the last decade? I can't recall at any point in my childhood seeing a double rainbow. I'm pretty sure I would remember something like that considering they're super cool. But how does it happen?

"How Stuff Works" explains:

A double rainbow occurs when light is reflected twice in the drop. It means you can see two different reflections, coming from different angles. This leads to something that is actually really cool — instead of seeing red at the top and blue at the bottom like a regular ho-hum rainbow, the secondary rainbow (which is higher and lighter in color than the primary) has the colors reversed.
