Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest has nothing on the Detroit Coney Island Hot dog Contest

This is the 9th year that contestants will 10 minutes to eat as many Coney Island hot dogs as possible. Here is the twist that takes the hot dog eating contest to a new level, one that famous Nathans contest can't compete with...the hot dogs will topped with chili, mustard and onions!

The Detroit News is reporting that this year's winner gets a weekend trip to Las Vegas for two, free American Coney Island meals for a year and the championship belt.

This year you may have a chance since the reigning champion Matt Holowicki of Plymouth has retired. In the past Mat won the battle in 2014, '15, 16 and in 2018. Matt's record? 20 dogs! Could you handle that?

On top of having a great time taking part in the challenge or cheering a competitor on you will be supporting some great charities. Proceeds from registration fees and a portion of the day's sales and donations will benefit the Detroit Police Benefit and Protective Association and the Detroit Firemen’s Benevolent Fund.

The gloves will come off on August 29th and the eating contest starts at 5:45 p.m. at the restaurant, 114 W. Lafayette in Detroit. Competitors can register at the restaurant in advance for $10, or the day of for $15. Call (586) 219-0995 to register by phone. Spectators are asked to donate $5.

Do you have what it takes?
