Stressed? Throw Some Axes! Now Open at Revel & Roll in Kalamazoo
Axe throwing is now open at Revel & Roll West in Kalamazoo.
I've been waiting for this. Since it's become trendy, I've seen so many videos on social media of people genuinely having fun while trying to chuck an axe at a nearby target. So, when I heard that Revel & Roll was building their own axe throwing area I knew I had to try it. Last night, I finally got the chance.
The axe throwing area, next to the arcade, features two bays which are enough for two people in each bay.
Once you've signed a waiver, an instructor will take you to your bay and give a brief demonstration on technique, safety instructions and more. Then, you're free to start throwing!
Not As Easy As it Looks
If I'm being honest, I had high expectations for myself and my ability to throw axes (even though I've never done it) but, this was WAY harder than social media makes it look.
My significant other, Dan, seemed to pick up on it right away. I, on the other hand, took a little longer to finally hit the target...
Even though, today, my shoulder is throbbing from my several failed attempts I was pretty proud when I somehow managed to throw an axe in such a way that it landed straight up on its head:
Pricing and Reservations
Now that Revel & Roll's axe throwing is officially open, I have a feeling it'll become very popular very quickly. Especially on the weekends. That's why they offer reservations.
Before you go to make your reservations here are some things you should know:
- Axe throwing is available Wednesday - Sunday
- You must have at least 2 people to reserve a bay
- Axe throwers must be at least 12 years old
- Closed toed shoes are required
As well, if you have 6 or more people you'll have to call 269-250-5051 to book your reservation. The cost is $25 per person per hour. You can find the full list of requirements, hours and make your reservation here.
While I wasn't proficient at axe throwing after an hour of practice I still had an incredible time. Plus, it was a very effective stress reliever! And there's something SO satisfying when you finally hit that target with a loud *thud*.
Now, if axe throwing isn't your thing, that's okay. Sometimes staying home and enjoying a board game can be just as relaxing as violently throwing a sharp object at a target. Check out these board games from way back:
