One thing you can always count on when it comes to who I am as a person: I will always say yes to a milkshake. Especially during the summer months. As it so happens, this past Sunday was National Vanilla Milkshake Day which inspired me to find spots local to Kalamazoo that make a killer milkshake.

Whether you're looking for a simple milkshake, a boozy milkshake, or an extravagant milkshake...these sweet treats are fantastic.

1. Schultz's Treat Street

Schultz's Treat Street serves ice cream from the Michigan based company, Moo-ville. For your shake, you can choose whatever combination of flavors you'd like. Personally, I went with plain ol' chocolate mixed with Wizard's Brew. It's Butterbeer ice cream with butterscotch swirls. UH-mazing. The shake was incredibly rich but delicious and will cost you about $6. Find Schultz's Treat Street on Facebook or check out their website here.

2. Spirit of Kalamazoo

I'm ashamed to say that in my near 10 months in Kalamazoo this was my very first time visiting The Spirit of Kalamazoo. Known for their shirts which proclaim, "Yes! There really is a Kalamazoo!" they also serve up a delicious milkshake. Much like Schultz's Treat Street, you choose your combination of flavors. The Spirit of Kalamazoo offers Plainwell Ice Cream. I went with a salted caramel flavor along with one named Island Fudge. Those chunks of fudge combined with salted caramel? I was in heaven. This shake will cost you around $6. You can find The Spirit of Kalamazoo on Facebook or visit their website here.

3. Nonla Burger

While I wasn't able to stop by to snag a photo, I've had Nonla's shakes before. They have 3 flavors that they rotate for their "Shake of the Day". I lucked out and visited on a day when chocolate was the day's flavor (if you can't tell...it's my favorite). Simple, yes, but a perfect pairing with their incredible burgers. If you're in the mood for a specific flavor you can always call ahead to inquire about their shake of the day. Find their full menu on their website.

4. Frosty Boy

This is another spot in Kalamazoo that I've heard a lot about but never actually visited. The great thing about Frosty Boy is that they have a drive-thru which makes getting that milkshake fix all the more convenient. I'm someone who panics in the face of too many choices so I went with my tried and true flavor of choice...you guessed it...chocolate. Frosty Boy uses Hudsonville Ice Cream but I was surprised at how much this shake reminded me of the ever popular Wendy's Frosty. It was very smooth and creamy. Do you have dogs that love ice cream? Check out Frosty Boy's Puppy Sundaes. Unfortunately, Frosty Boy's website doesn't seem to be active anymore and they're Facebook page hasn't been updated since 2019. If you'd like to ask about menu items give them a call at 269-345-5360.

5. Water Street Coffee Joint

If you need a sweet treat with a little boost a coffee place seems like the best place to go! This is the only one on the list I didn't try myself...and as I'm looking at this picture I'm regretting it. When it comes to coffee drinks I prefer the milkshake version. I would drink one every day if I could. Unfortunately, both my doctor and metabolism disagree. Find Water Street's full menu here.

6. Cherri's Chocolart

If consuming milkshakes somehow had a boss level...this would be the final boss. Decadent doesn't begin to describe this Monster Milkshake. They have a few different flavors to choose from like the Monster Smores, Monster Pride Shake and, my choice, the Monster Turtle Shake. While the ice cream comes from Hudsonville Ice Cream, all the toppings are made in house. The turtles, the whipped cream, the caramel sauce, the decorative chocolate pieces ALL homemade. This will cost you about $9.50. My recommendation: bring a friend because I had to give up halfway through enjoying this treat. You can order chocolates online or follow them on Facebook.

7. Revel & Roll West

For adults only because this milkshake contains a bit of booze. Surprisingly, Revel & Roll features a selection of specialty ice cream flavors that are made in house. I lucked out on the day I visited because I snagged the the last of the bacon ice cream with a swirl of bourbon. It was blended with a shot of Screwball (a peanut butter flavored whiskey) and topped with a bourbon maple glaze. It was a bit smoky but was perfectly balanced with the peanut butter and maple flavors. Because of the alcohol, this is the priciest shake on the list landing at just over $12. Stay up to date with everything Revel & Roll has to offer by visiting their website or finding them on Facebook.
