Yes, despite those random two days of snow flurries we experienced, Spring is officially here. With it the perfect excuse to up your plant game! Whether you're looking for flowers, succulents that are hard to kill (that's me), trees, shrubbery, or veggies here are the 7 best nurseries in Kalamazoo.

Keep in mind, this is based solely on Yelp reviews and internet searches. Have other nurseries in mind that should be on the list? Let me know! I'm always looking for new places to discover. In no particular order I present:

The 7 Best Nurseries in Kalamazoo:

1. Wendel's Nursery, Florist and Garden Center

According to their Facebook page, Wendel's has been serving southwest Michigan for the past 75 years. There you'll find houseplants, flowers, trees and services like floral design, landscaping and a "plant doctor" (do they make house calls?). Shop at their store off Texas Drive in Kalamazoo or online.

2. Romence Gardens

If you're looking to specifically spruce up your landscaping, Romence Gardens has a lot to offer. Founded in 1903, Romence has grown to a 10 acre nursery offering hundreds of trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals. Visit their website for more information or find them on Facebook.

3. River Street Flowerland

River Street is an independent and family owned business whose roots go back to celery farming in the 1900's. Now, River Street offers a wide variety plants from succulents to perennial grasses and everything in between. According to their website, they grow most everything right there at River Street so they have the knowledge to help all of their customers with their needs. Take a virtual tour and see their list of plants on their website.

4. Schram's Greenhouse

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find an official website for Schram's Greenhouse but the reviews rave about them. Like this one from Facebook that reads: We buy all of our plants for our garden and have always had good quality vegetables. They are a great source for information about gardening and plant questions. Or this one from J.K in Kalamazoo on Yelp that reads: This is strictly a bedding plant place without the frills of a full-service garden center. But that means great prices. While Schram's was closed for the season in the above picture, they officially open back up tomorrow!

5. Vander Salm's Flower Shop and Garden Center

Vander Salm's is a 5th generation flower shop, according to their website, and has been serving Kalamazoo since 1910. They offer unique gifts like baskets, chimes, wall art, garden decor, figurines and, of course, a variety of plants both for indoor and outdoor purposes. You can stop by their store off S Burdick St., shop online, or find more information on Facebook.

6. Mason Jar Plant Shop

Started in honor of her mother, Mason Jar Plant Shop just opened within the last year. They offer houseplants, curated gifts, and a terrarium bar where you can build your own terrariums. That's an experience I haven't seen offered anywhere else. You can find Mason Jar Plant shop on W. South Street near downtown Kalamazoo, online or on Facebook.

7. Phil Gernaat & Sons Greenhouse

Another local greenhouse that got its start in celery farming, Gernaat & Sons Greenhouse has been family owned and operated since 1938. If your needs lean more towards landscaping opposed to house plants, they've got quite the selection. And quite the reputation. The online reviews rave about the quality of the product and the customer service. Find them online or on Facebook.
