49-year old Robert Carter gave the police a perfectly logical explanation on why he broke into Mellencamp's home.

According to patch.com,

An Indianapolis man accused of breaking into musician John Mellencamp's home was arrested by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department Thursday. According to Indiana Public Media, deputies responded to an alarm call at Mellencamp's home around 6 a.m. Thursday where they found an opened security gate, and a man inside the unoccupied home. Indiana Public Media reported Robert Carter, 49, told deputies he was there to arrest Mellencamp for supporting a government which he doesn't support, and admitted to kicking in the house's door.

Carter fought authority, but authority always wins.  Looks like somebody has quite a few "Lonely Ol' Nights" ahead of him.  See what I did there?
