Welcome Home! Juwan Howard Named U of M Hoops Coach
It's Homecoming at the University of Michigan. The Detroit Free-Press reports Juwan Howard has been hired to replace John Beilein as the school's basketball coach. Howard, one of the storied "Fab Five" in the early 90's has been given a five year contract, though The Detroit News reported, as of Wednesday afternoon, the deal had not been finalized. But Howard's wife tweet mid-day Wednesday:
Howard has had quite a career. A native of Chicago, he as a two-time All-American at Michigan, a team that played in back to back National Title games. He spent 19 years in the NBA with several teams, winning two rings with the Miami Heat in 2012-13, and has been a respected member of the Heat coaching staff for the past six seasons.
Howard will have the unenviable task of replacing Beilein, who was the winningest coach in Michigan history. And his first task will be to retain some of the incoming talent that has started to bail on the program in wake of Beilein's exit.
