Did you know the lead producer of 'Hamilton' grew up right here in Michigan?

The buzz around town is that the play ' Hamilton' that opened on Broadway 4 and a half years ago is coming to Detroit. It is a big deal that the play won 11 Tony awards ,sold out 1,500 shows and grossed over $500 million dollars to date will be here. Yet, it really is like a homecoming of sorts. The lead producer of the production Jeffrey Seller was born and raised in the Detroit area. Jeffery was raised in Oak Park and attended U of M before he ventured off to New York to pursue his dreams.

'Hamilton' will be performing at the Fisher Theater in Detroit and Jeffery told the Detroit Free Press...

Some of his fondest memories of growing up in metro Detroit are of seeing shows at the Fisher Theatre. When he talks about Detroit theater, it's with the authority of a scholar and the enthusiasm of a fan. I’ve said it many times, I was enriched by being able to see so many Broadway musicals on tour at the Fisher Theatre when I was growing up in the late '70s and early '80s."

Jeffery was also a producer on plays like 'The Heights' 'Avenue Q' and 'Rent'. With all of his success he has managed to stay humble...

“I think it kept me very appreciative and I still am. I still go, 'Oh my gosh, am I still working on Broadway? Do I really have a show running at the Richard Rodgers Theatre? I do'! It still moves me when I walk down 46th Street and I see the marquee of the show that I produced. I produced a Broadway musical. Wow!”
