I never knew how sweet Sweetest Day really is

I rarely am bothered by being single. I mean, I decide what I want to eat and when, I can be a sheet hog and no one complains, plus,  I can drink liquids right out of the container! Yet, I seem to loose my positive views of being single when "the love" holiday's roll around, you know...Valentines Day, Sweetest Day and I even consider New Years a lovers time simply because of the famous midnight kiss. And I suppose I can handle V.D. and New Years because they are such established holiday's but Sweetest Day...really? That is until I figured out how the day originally started and why. According to the romatic.com this is how a very sweet holiday came to be...

Observed the 3rd Saturday in the month of October, Sweetest Day observance originated in Cleveland in 1922. Herbert Birch Kingston, a philanthropist and candy company employee wanted to bring happiness into the lives of orphans, shut-ins and others who were forgotten. With the help of friends, he began to distribute candy and small gifts to the underprivileged.

How wonderfully sweet is that? The day isn't about being in love, it is about sharing love with those who need it most. I think this October 20th, I am really going to enjoy Sweetest Day, and try and so something special for someone else. Of course after that I will have a date with my guys Ben and Jerry, while watching a horribly cheesy romantic comedy and cursing everyone else who is in love...hey, just being honest!
