Michigan DNR Auctioning Land in Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced it is auctioning off 58 parcels of land in central/northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula beginning Dec. 6.
Some of the properties offer good recreational opportunities, but many do not. The DNR does not sugarcoat it. They say, "These lands are isolated from other DNR-managed public land, are difficult to manage and provide limited public recreation benefit."
The land will be sold by sealed-bid auction between Dec. 6, 2016, and Jan. 10, 2017. The parcels are located in the counties of: Arenac, Baraga, Chippewa, Clare, Gladwin, Lake, Mackinac, Manistee, Midland, Newaygo, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Presque Isle, Roscommon and Wexford.
Properties range in size from less than an acre to 77 acres. Some are secluded, but several are forested and have riverside or lake frontage. In addition, several large-acreage parcels are being offered in Baraga, Clare, Midland, Presque Isle, Roscommon and Wexford counties.
View information on the auction, including minimum bid price, property descriptions and conditions of sale.
Property listings will not be available for bid until Dec. 6. At that time, instructions for submitting a bid and printable bid forms will be provided. Sealed bids must be postmarked by midnight Jan. 10 and will be opened Jan. 24.
Proceeds from the sale help the Michigan DNR provide outdoor recreation opportunities.
